The Way to Heaven

The Way to Heaven

That infinity is finite and after death is, nothing is a frightening idea, one that many existentialists and modern thinkers played with for years. The result? Despair and meaninglessness.

For so long man has yearned for a life after the present life, and this has made me wonder—how can a finite human being ever thought of a life that transcends the life of every man, how could the mere possibility of it have entered his mind?

If we all are made of flesh and blood, how could we think that there is such a thing as spirit? If we have never seen heaven, how can we long for it so ardently, as if we have been there before and want to go back?

The answer is this: We all have been made by an omniscient God who left within us a mark that will tell us we are more than we understand. We long for something beyond ourselves because we were created with a hole in our hearts that only God can fill.

And this hole is that longing for worship, for oneness with our Maker. Sadly, many people run into other things to worship and for salvation, not knowing that God has already made a provision for us to have that intimate relationship with him.

The Sacrifice and Substitute

More than 2,000 years ago, God the Father sent his Son, equal with him in glory and power, to earth in the form of a man, stripping him of his glory and deity, in order to save the world and restore them back to him. Jesus Christ became the ultimate sacrifice so that we may now freely approach God just as we are and worship him in spirit and in truth, just as we were created to.

As sinners, we were not acceptable in the sight of a holy and righteous God to whom sin was most reproachable. But in his great mercy, he authored a way for us to be restored to him despite our depravity. He gave up his Son Jesus, who took upon himself the sin of the world, and suffered the consequence of death—separation from God and death. He was crucified on the cross, died, and went to hell, as we should have, paying the ultimate penalty for all our sin.

But because of his righteousness, devoid of sin, death could not have any hold on him. He resurrected on the third day, showed himself to his disciples, to whom he foretold his resurrection, and ascended back to heaven, seated on the right hand of the Father.

It says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The Only Way To The Father

In John 14:6 it say, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

“Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9:26-28)

The only way to heaven is to believe in what Christ has done, that “now in Christ you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13)."
